Placing Holds on Items

Placing holds for item retrieval
You can place holds on items available and on the shelves in the Ely Library collections using the Quicksearch. The item will be retrieved for you and held for you to borrow from the Access Services desk.  You can request up to 5 items at a time. Items retrieved will be made available within 1 business day of when the hold is placed. You must sign in with your Ely Library account in order to request items for retrieval (see instructions below).  You will receive email notification when the item(s) are available for you to pick up.

If an item is checked out, you can place a hold on the item and it will be put aside when it is returned and held for you to borrow from the Access Services desk. You must sign in with your Ely Library account in order to request items for retrieval (see instructions below). You will receive email notification when the item(s) are available for you to pick up.

In order to place a hold on an item, you must open the full record for the item. Click the title link in the Quicksearch to open the full record view.

After clicking the link to open the full record, scroll down to the section "Check Availability".  You will see a blue button labeled "Place Hold". Click this button to begin the process of placing the hold. If there is already a hold placed on the item, you will also see a note "There is 1(#) hold requested for this title".

If you are not signed in to your Quicksearch library account, you will see a screen prompting you to login. 
Enter the same username and password that you use for MyWestfield and your Westfield State email and click the blue "SIGN IN" button. 
 

This will open a form to "Submit a Place Hold Request":

In this form, use the dropdown menu labeled "I need" a copy to identify a specific copy needed (in most cases you can leave this as "any copy").  Also, be sure to check the box to indicate that you want the copy from the Ely Library Stacks (or the respective collection where the item is shelved: Education Resources Collection, Ely Library Video Collection, etc.). The form will include a dropdown menu indicating that you will pick up the item at the Ely Library (no other choices are available). 

At the bottom of the form is an option to indicate the date ranges for which you need an item. Entering date ranges is not required.  If you do wish to enter date ranges, you can click the arrow labeled "Dates I need it" and choose the respective dates (the second date indicates the date after which you will no longer need the item). You can also list a date range indicating when you will not be able to pick up the item "I can not pick up...".  After you have entered any desired date ranges, click the blue "Submit" button. 

A screen will appear confirming your request and indicating your place in the queue if there are multiple holds on an item. You will receive email notification when the item is available for you to pick up.
