Why use reference tools?
Reference materials generally include dictionaries, encyclopedias, directories or other specialized handbooks. The format may vary; some may be available in print, or some may be available online as eBooks or entries in databases. No matter the format, reference materials provide a quick, yet informative, overview of your subject. They are great to consult when beginning your research. Use them to learn more about people, time periods, genres, and more. Identify keywords that you can use in online searching.
The following are just a few of the reference titles available through Ely Library. Use the Ely Library Quicksearch to search for titles in print or online.
The print Reference Collection is located next to Reference Desk on the main level of Ely Library. These books are available for your use in the library. Try browsing the M call number area or ask a librarian for assistance.
