The student benefits associated with ePortfolios and other High Impact Practices are well documented. This session will dispel myths, affirm the benefits of ePortfolio use, explore the career competencies aligned with ePortfolios, and provide strategies to simplify ePortfolio building with a simple curriculum: ePortfolios on the Fives.
Students can build websites using five tools, design engaging pages following our three-by-five strategy, and better tackle course-based ePortfolios when they engage with ePortfolios five times during their semester. IU faculty have used these strategies in their courses and will share student ePortfolios that demonstrate the range of purposes, orientations, and designs students create using these simple guidelines.

Join alums from a variety of different professions including publishing, writing, and content marketing to learn about how they use generative AI (GAI) in their jobs. These former English majors genuinely understand the value of writing to think, create, and communicate; that is to say, they are individuals who integrate this new technology thoughtfully. The goal of this panel is to get us thinking about how we can better prepare our future graduates for professions that will likely require them to use generative AI, which may include learning the skills to use GAI or when and how to opt-out.

The Research, Innovation, Design, & Entrepreneurial (RIDE) Center supports course-embedded projects and learning outcomes by providing faculty and students with expert-support, fabrication tools, and personalized project-development. Faculty can engage in many ways from a simple visit to RIDE to becoming a RIDE Faculty Fellow. Lamis Jarvinen, Executive Director of RIDE, will share how faculty from diverse departments and course offerings utilized the RIDE Center to support WISE, sharing logistics, considerations, and assessment for learning.

Assessment is a critical piece of general education, and as we launch WISE, assessment will allow us to ensure we meet the learning outcomes we have designed as a community. Triangulating the assessment process can lay the groundwork for equitable assessment with the goal of improving pedagogy. In this 90-minute workshop, Drs. Rowanna Carpenter and Celine Fitzmaurice from Portland State University will describe assessment best practices, including triangulation, designing assessment that allows us to answer questions that matter to us, and building on faculty’s unique experience and expertise. This workshop is open to all, and is especially relevant for faculty teaching WISE Courses or to those who may serve as Assessment Ambassadors, faculty recruited from WISE areas being assessed in a given assessment cycle who will determine assessment instruments, review artifacts, and summarize results.
