Directions for some of the most common library-related tasks

On Campus Access

While on campus, full access will be automatic whether you access the Chronicle directly at Chronicle.com, via the Ely Library website, or through a search engine like Google.

Off Campus Access (Three options)

  1. Access the Chronicle link via the Ely Library Databases Page: http://lib.westfield.ma.edu/az.php

Once you have clicked the link, you will be prompted to log in with your myWestfield username and password.

  1. Create a Chronicle account using your @westfield.ma.edu e-mail address. This will allow you to log in to the site for full access regardless of your location.
    1. Go to Chronicle.com and click the “Sign In” link at the top right of the page
    2. Choose “Sign up”
    3. Enter your name and your @westfield.ma.edu e-mail address. You must use your Westfield address to link your account to Ely Library’s subscription.
    4. You will receive a verification e-mail at your Westfield e-mail that contains a link that must be clicked to complete registration.
    5. Any time you would like to access premium content from off campus, just click the “Log In” link at Chronicle.com and enter your e-mail and the password you have chosen.
  2. For iPad users- Download the Chronicle App from the App store. Once the app is open, click “Sign in” on the top left and use your campus e-mail to set up your account. You must use your Westfield address to link your account to Ely Library’s subscription.

Accessing Chronicle Special Reports and Special Issues

A Chronicle Special Report is a curated collection of articles. In most cases, the content is not available through our subscription and must be purchased separately; in other cases, the report is repackaged content that is accessible via our subscription. Special Issues are focused around a single subject and are usually a subsection of a regular issue of The Chronicle. A recent reorganization of the Chronicle.com site has made it more difficult to locate the contents of Special Reports and Special Issues. Reports and Issues are available for purchase through the Chronicle Store, but some (not all) of the content is free with the WSU subscription if you know where to look.

For Special Issues, make note of the date of publication of the issue. Click the "Current Issue" link on Chronicle.com to be taken to a page where you can browse issues by date. Once you have found the correct date, you can scroll through the contents to locate the articles that make up the special issue. The Almanac and Trends Report issues are also available through this archive browse.

For Special Reports, which often contain content reprinted from multiple issues, you can search for individual article titles listed in the table of contents of the report, as there is currently no list of reports on the Chronicle.com site. You may also be able to locate them by searching the name of a report in the search bar.

The Chronicle will sometimes send out e-mails to those who have created personal accounts advertising these reports and urging users to purchase them without making it clear that the content is often available to Westfield State for free.
