A Chronicle Special Report is a curated collection of articles. In most cases, the content is not available through our subscription and must be purchased separately; in other cases, the report is repackaged content that is accessible via our subscription. Special Issues are focused around a single subject and are usually a subsection of a regular issue of The Chronicle. A recent reorganization of the Chronicle.com site has made it more difficult to locate the contents of Special Reports and Special Issues. Reports and Issues are available for purchase through the Chronicle Store, but some (not all) of the content is free with the WSU subscription if you know where to look.
For Special Issues, make note of the date of publication of the issue. Click the "Current Issue" link on Chronicle.com to be taken to a page where you can browse issues by date. Once you have found the correct date, you can scroll through the contents to locate the articles that make up the special issue. The Almanac and Trends Report issues are also available through this archive browse.
For Special Reports, which often contain content reprinted from multiple issues, you can search for individual article titles listed in the table of contents of the report, as there is currently no list of reports on the Chronicle.com site. You may also be able to locate them by searching the name of a report in the search bar.
The Chronicle will sometimes send out e-mails to those who have created personal accounts advertising these reports and urging users to purchase them without making it clear that the content is often available to Westfield State for free.
