Faculty Union Materials, 1960 – 1998

Historical Sketch

College governance has been an important part of the campus life for many years. The current All-University Committee (AUC) is a governance committee established by the Massachusetts State College Association (MSCA) contract with the Commonwealth. It makes recommendations to the President of the College about changes in the courses, majors, and minors offered by the College and about academic and other policies affecting students and/or faculty. Other governance committees in turn advise the ACC on matters within their scope.

Another important aspect of faculty life has been the existence of a union for the faculty. The current union for faculty is the Massachusetts State College Association.

The last individual contract for the faculty at Westfield State College was during the 1975/1976 academic year. The subsequent contracts were state system wide contracts.

Description

This collection is comprised of 10 archival boxes of materials. The materials included in this collections consist of  Faculty Senate Executive Board meeting agendas, minutes, reports and correspondence from 1960 - 1970; General Faculty Meetings includes meeting minutes and correspondence from 1963 - 1972; American Association of University Professors, correspondence, agendas, meeting minutes from 1961 - 1975; Academic Federation of Teachers, charter from 1971, correspondence, agendas, meeting minutes from 1972 – 1978; Massachusetts State College Association, correspondence, agendas, meeting minutes, newsletters all from 1978 – 1998; MSCA Perspective, MSCA Update, Continuing Education Contract from 1994 – 1997, and Faculty Contracts from 1975 – 1998.
