Criminal Justice Periodicals

ProQuest's Criminal Justice Periodicals database provides access to article citations for journals, magazines, and trade publications within the criminal justice field. The database also provides full-text access to some articles when available.

 
ACCESS: On Campus:
  • From the Ely Library Homepage (http://lib.westfield.ma.edu):

  • In the Quick Links to Databases section click Criminal Justice Periodicals.

Off Campus:
  • From the Ely Library Homepage Quick Links to Databases section, click Off Campus Access
  • From the Off-Campus Databases page, click Criminal Justice Periodicals.  
  • You will be prompted for you username and password.  Follow the onscreen instructions.

 

Search Options


BASIC SEARCH

When you click on Criminal Justice Periodicals you are brought to the Basic Search Screen:

Basic Search allows you to search for articles using keywords.


ADVANCED SEARCH

Advanced Search allows you to retrieve articles by searching for terms in specified fields:

 

TOPIC GUIDE

 

The Topic Guide functions much like a thesaurus in that it helps identify the terminology used by the database to describe different topics.  Using the suggested topics provided will help retrieve the maximum number of relevant documents.

 

PUBLICATION SEARCH

The Publication Search option allows you to search for specific publications or to browse an alphabetical listing of all publications in the database. For those publications for which full-text is available, an indication will be made.

RESULT LIST

The Result List displays those articles retrieved by your search in the following format:

Full-text availability and format will be indicated by the , , and/or icons underneath the citation.  Click on the format of your choice to view the article. Note: Viewing the Page Image - PDF format requires Adobe Reader.

You may refine the result list by using the menu buttons at the top of the list. You can choose to look only at scholarly articles; magazine articles; or trade publications. You may also choose to display only those citations which include full-text.

 

Mark records for printing, saving, emailing, or citation formatting (see below) by clicking the checkbox to the left of the record.  Click View Marked Articles to work with those records you have selected.

 

In some instances the result list may be preceded by a list of suggested topics and/or publications where more information on your topic may be found.  For further information see Topic Guide above. 

 

 

PRINTING, SAVING, & EMAILING

 
To PRINT :  & formats:
  • In the Article View screen click .
  • When the dialog box appears, click OK.

 

format:
  • Click in the Adobe Reader's tool bar.
  • When the dialog box appears, click OK.

 

To SAVE :

From either the Article View or Adobe Reader screens: 

Click on File > Save As from the menu bar.

Select the appropriate drive, enter a filename, and click Save.

 

To EMAIL : In the Article View screen, click .

Select the desired formats and styles of the message.

Enter an email address, and any messages desired.

Click Send Email

 

 

FORMATTING CITATIONS

 

ProQuest provides the ability to format citations according to the style guidelines of the APA, MLA, and others.
